Notes on Being Human
Here I share what I’ve learned from psychology and from real life. Reflections, stories, and tools to help you feel more connected, confident, and steady in a busy world.
What They Forgot to Teach Us That Matters Most
Surgeons save lives with steady hands and razor-sharp focus. Yet, when challenged on small things like communication or schedules, even these extraordinary professionals can unravel. This reveals the hidden truth: mastering technical skills isn’t enough. What we forget and desperately need is emotional navigation. It shapes every decision, relationship, and moment of resilience. Without it, brilliance falters. This invisible skill is the missing curriculum of life, yet it holds the keynot just to surviving, but truly thriving.
The Bob Effect and the EQ Illusion
There’s a Bob at every party. Someone convinced he’s a master of emotional intelligence, but blind to his own blind spots. The real irony? The more certain we are of our emotional savvy, the more likely we’re missing the mark. After years as a psychologist, I’ve learned that true emotional wisdom is quiet, humble, and always curious. The moment we start explaining our EQ to others is the moment we’ve become Bob ourselves.
